Our U15 hurlers got their championship campaign off to a positive start with a hard-fought win against a strong Scariff Ogonnelloe side on a bright but windy morning in Clarecastle yesterday morning.
The visitors led by a single point at half-time (0-6 to 0-5), with scores for the Magpies coming from Ado (2), Cillian, and Finn (2).
There was plenty of action in the opening half, with the Scariff Ogonnelloe goalkeeper producing an excellent save to deny Johnny’s penalty, turning it out for a 65. At the other end, Jay made a superb save in the second half to stop a Scariff Ogonnelloe penalty effort.
The Magpies defence stood firm throughout, particularly in the second half when they came under sustained pressure and dealt well with everything thrown at them.
Alex made an immediate impact after the break, opening the second-half scoring with a well-taken goal. Further scores from Oisín (3, including 2 frees), Jack, and Johnny, along with a second goal from Alex, helped the Magpies finish strongly.
They ran out deserving winners on a scoreline of 2-10 to 1-9, securing a great team performance and an encouraging start to the championship.
